Emigration

The Adventure of Emigration

Beyond History.
Connecting you with your ancestors.

In July 1683, 13 Quaker families from Krefeld boarded the “Concord” — they were the first German emigrants to leave their homeland for an unknown but promising future in the new American city of Philadelphia. Since then, countless persons have left Europe. Maybe there are ancestors like that in your family, too? With Beyond History you can learn exciting details about distant relatives and about your own family history.

Our expert team starts its research in your ancestors’ emigration papers. In addition to searching regional emigration documents, specialist literature, and arrival records, as well as our own databases, we also explore the famous emigration archive in Hamburg, Germany’s largest port city. Even today, the archive contains ships’ records listing over 5 million people who passed through Hamburg to emigrate overseas from 1850 to 1934.

Every single emigration is part of a unique story — on both sides of the ocean. Let’s find out together about those emigrant ancestors and whether exciting emigration events are part of your family history, too.
