Andrea Bentschneider at Genealogica 2023

As always, Genealogica will take place completely virtually. In contrast to previous years, there will be no exhibition area, but an especially full and exciting lecture program. Of course, as always all lectures, which will be recorded, can be viewed until the end of the event.

Andrea Bentschneider is contributing two lectures this year (in German):

• On Saturday, 11 February 2023, live at 10:00 a.m. (German time), she will speak on the topic of "Das Leben der Tagelöhner und Hofgänger auf einem Mecklenburger Gutshof" (The life of day laborers and farm workers on a Mecklenburg estate).  Embark on an exciting journey into the past with our boss and learn more about farm worker life in the North German province in the second half of the 19th century. The work contract of a day laborer from 1895 gives deep insights into the activities in the course of the year, the harvest festivals but also working hours and wages.

• On Sunday, 12 February 2023, live at 12:00 noon (German time), the topic will be "Archivrecherche – Vorbereitung, Durchführung, Nachbereitung" (Archive research - preparation, conduct, follow-up). Traditional archival research is still an important cornerstone of genealogical research – despite the growth of online services – and an experience that will never replace on-screen research. In this lecture, you will learn how to best prepare for a visit to the archive.

Of course, the other presentations by our colleagues are also highly recommended! On the subject of archive research, for example, there are further contributions by Lars Thiele ("Schnell und zuverlässig das richtige Archiv oder Standesamt ermitteln") and Cornelia Pohlmann ("Familienforschung in Berliner Archiven").
